    The Challenge

    Maju Universal was using 100% Chinese 30/60 hard rock garnet, which created several operational and environmental challenges:

    • Reduced productivity and higher abrasive consumption due to lower toughness

    • Increased disposal costs and longer cleanup times due to greater abrasive usage and waste generation

    • Increased wear on blasting equipment, leading to higher maintenance requirements

    • Elevated dust levels and contaminants, impacting visibility, operator safety, housekeeping requirements, and environmental performance

    • High abrasive embedment, creating a non-uniform surface profile

    Maju Universal required a cleaner, safer, and more efficient blasting solution that could improve productivity while reducing dust generation, waste volumes, and overall environmental impact.

    Solution

    GMA technical specialists conducted an on-site abrasive trial at the customer's facility to evaluate productivity, abrasive consumption, safety, and overall blasting performance under actual operating conditions. Working closely with supervisors and operators, the team optimized blasting pressures and equipment settings to maximize performance and ensure a fair comparison. With setup optimization, GMA Garnet™ delivered:

    • Higher productivity

    • Significantly reduced abrasive consumption (30 - 50% saving)

    • Lower waste volumes

    • Cleaner, safer blasting conditions.

    • More uniform surface profile with increased surface area
