As part of our ongoing commitment to knowledge sharing and industry awareness, GMA Middle East recently hosted an industrial visit for Grade 10 students from Raffles World Academy (RWA), Dubai. The group, comprising ten students (part of RWA SS Eco-team) and their teacher, had the opportunity to explore the world of garnet abrasives, industrial applications, and career prospects in mining, industrial engineering, and manufacturing.
Introduction to GMA and Its Role in the Industry
The visit began with an informative presentation by Hemanshu Dawda, Manager - Waterjet Division, introducing GMA Garnet Group, our operations, and our presence in the region, particularly within the oil and gas sector. Students learned about our high-performance garnet abrasives, their various industrial applications, and GMA’s commitment to sustainability through our garnet recycling program. The session also highlighted career pathways in industrial sectors, inspiring students to consider future opportunities in the field.

Inside the GMA Middle East Facility
Following the presentation, the students embarked on a guided tour of the GMA Middle East plant facility. After a comprehensive safety briefing, they witnessed firsthand the intricate processes involved in garnet bulk handling, processing, packaging, and quality assurance. The interactive walkthrough allowed them to engage with our team, ask questions, and gain a deeper understanding of how GMA ensures the highest standards in garnet supply and distribution.
Abrasive Blasting in Action
One of the highlights of the visit was a hands-on abrasive blasting demonstration. Using IBIX portable blast machines, students observed how GMA’s NewSteel grade garnet effectively restores corroded steel plates. Some students even got the chance to try abrasive blasting themselves under expert supervision, experiencing the power and precision of garnet abrasives in action.

A Friendly Challenge: Quiz and Trophy Award
To wrap up the visit, students participated in an engaging quiz based on the knowledge they gained throughout the day. The winning team was awarded a trophy, adding a fun and competitive element to the learning experience.
