Efficient Completion of a U.S. Military Oil Storage Tank Blasting Project

Background
A South Carolina-based contractor was commissioned for a high-stakes project: blasting one of the U.S. military’s oil storage tanks. Typically, a job of this scale would require three weeks and 10 truckloads of abrasive, but this time, the contractor was given only two weeks to complete the task.

 Challenge
Facing a significantly reduced timeline, the contractor needed a solution that would allow them to maintain the quality of their work while meeting the strict deadline. The key challenge was finding a way to complete the project in just two weeks without compromising on the blasting standards required by the military.

Solution
The contractor turned to GMA Garnet™ for a solution. Within days, 10 truckloads of GMA SpeedBlast™ garnet were delivered to the job site, accompanied by new high-efficiency blasting equipment. To ensure the project ran smoothly, an application engineer with expertise in GMA SpeedBlast™ was also deployed to support the contractor’s team. The engineer worked closely with the team, optimizing the blasting process and mitigating any potential productivity challenges.

 Results
The contractor successfully completed the oil storage tank project in just 13 days—one day ahead of the already tight two-week schedule. Additionally, the project was completed 25% under budget, with the use of only half the expected abrasive, resulting in the return of five truckloads of GMA SpeedBlast™.

Summary
By leveraging GMA SpeedBlast™ and expert support, the contractor was able to complete the project 40% faster than the standard timeline, significantly under budget, and with reduced abrasive consumption. The success of this project highlights the efficiency and effectiveness of GMA Garnet™ solutions in meeting the demanding requirements of high-profile customers such as the U.S. military.
