Building Stronger Foundations: GMA Releases 2025 Sustainability Report

GMA is proud to release its 2025 Sustainability Report, outlining the company's environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance across its operations in Australia, the Americas, and the Middle East.

The report reflects continued progress in how sustainability is governed, measured, and integrated into business decision-making, while highlighting practical initiatives undertaken across environmental management, safety, employee wellbeing, workforce development, and community engagement.

A key milestone during the reporting year was the completion of GMA's first formal materiality assessment, providing a structured process to identify and evaluate the ESG topics most relevant to the business, its stakeholders, and its long-term priorities.

The report also highlights ongoing improvements in sustainability governance, reporting systems, and accountability, alongside continued alignment with broader sustainability initiatives across the Jebsen & Jessen Group.

"As someone who joined GMA in December 2025, I have had the opportunity to see the strong foundations already in place across the business," said Stephan Kirsch, Chief Executive Officer of GMA Garnet Group.

“This report highlights that collective effort and the progress made across governance, environmental management, safety, employee wellbeing, community engagement, and resource stewardship.”

Among the report's highlights, renewable energy contributed 48% of GMA's energy mix during 2025, while approximately 1.79 million tonnes of material were recovered or reused across global operations. The report also details progress in rehabilitation activities, water stewardship, air quality management, waste recovery, employee wellbeing, and safety performance.

According to Cameron Sargeant, General Manager People and Sustainability, the report reflects an important step forward in the maturity of GMA's sustainability approach.

"Completing our first formal materiality assessment was a significant milestone for GMA. It is strengthening our understanding of the sustainability topics that matter most to our business and customers, while providing a stronger foundation for future decision-making, reporting, and accountability. Sustainability continues to evolve across GMA, and our focus remains on improving the systems, data, and governance processes that support long-term performance."

The report also highlights GMA's continued focus on responsible resource management, including rehabilitation programs at Port Gregory in Western Australia, water stewardship initiatives across its operations, and waste recovery and reprocessing activities that support the circular use of garnet.

During 2025, GMA launched its inaugural Global Sustainability Awards, recognizing customers and distribution partners demonstrating leadership in garnet recovery, reuse, and waste reduction. The awards reinforce the role collaboration plays in supporting sustainability outcomes across the value chain.

Looking ahead, GMA remains focused on strengthening sustainability governance, improving data quality, clarifying ownership of material ESG topics, and increasing the use of sustainability information to support operational and strategic decision-making.
