Advancing Sustainable Abrasive Blasting in the Middle East

Nasser Saeed Al-Hajri & Partners For Cont. Co. (NSH), a leading industrial contractor in the Middle East, has been honored with the Industry Leader Award – Contractor or Manufacturer (Abrasive Blasting) at the 2025 GMA Global Sustainability Awards. This recognition highlights NSH’s leadership and commitment to advancing sustainable abrasive blasting practices across its operations.

Established in 1978 in Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia, NSH has evolved into a trusted partner for the region’s energy and industrial sectors. The company has successfully delivered complex projects spanning oil and gas, petrochemicals, power generation, and infrastructure, reinforcing its reputation for operational excellence and reliability.

A key factor contributing to this recognition is NSH’s collaboration with Garnet Arabia Company Ltd, the local subsidiary of GMA Garnet Group. Through participation in the GMA Garnet Returns Program, NSH has implemented structured abrasive-media management processes that enable spent garnet to be collected, returned, and reprocessed rather than disposed of in a landfill. By establishing clear internal coordination mechanisms and standardized workflows, NSH has demonstrated measurable progress in improving resource efficiency and minimizing environmental impact.

Commenting on this achievement, Soni John, General Manager of GMA Middle East, stated:

“NSH has adopted a highly systematic approach to integrating garnet recovery across diverse project environments, demonstrating genuine leadership in sustainable blasting operations. Their consistent implementation reflects a strong commitment to responsible resource stewardship and sets a benchmark for best practices across the region.”

NSH’s accomplishment underscores the practical viability of circular-use models within demanding industrial environments. By embedding material return pathways into its operational framework, the company has demonstrated that sustainability initiatives can be effectively implemented without compromising project performance, quality, or delivery timelines.

Furthermore, this initiative aligns closely with Saudi Arabia’s national sustainability objectives, particularly its focus on advancing a circular economy through waste reduction, enhanced recycling, and responsible resource utilization. NSH’s proactive integration of abrasive-media recovery into its routine operations serves as a compelling example of how large-scale industrial contractors can contribute meaningfully to environmental sustainability while maintaining operational excellence.

GMA commends NSH on this significant achievement and looks forward to strengthening ongoing collaboration to further promote sustainable practices across the industrial and energy sectors.
