For our customers, continuity of supply is critical. By leveraging Port Klang’s strategic location, we have reduced lead times by up to 21 days, enabling faster access to garnet across North East Asia (NEA) and South East Asia (SEA). This enhanced efficiency ensures projects remain on schedule and customers benefit from dependable delivery across diverse industries including marine, oil and gas, infrastructure, and manufacturing.
Every shipment from Port Klang is subject to the same rigorous quality assurance processes that underpin GMA’s global operations. Comprehensive training and industry-leading quality control measures ensure consistency, while recent safety enhancements — including conveyor guarding and upgraded operational processes — strengthen both efficiency and reliability at the hub.
The Malaysian hub is also central to bringing new abrasive solutions closer to our customers. In early 2024, we introduced GMA ToughBlast™, a premium garnet abrasive engineered for demanding surface preparation environments. Delivered through Port Klang, ToughBlast™ has demonstrated productivity improvements of up to 30% in key applications.
Complementing this, we have expanded our range of engineered blends tailored to the working conditions in APAC — including GMA NewSteel™, GMA SpeedBlast™, GMA PremiumBlast™, and GMA ExtremeBlast™. These solutions provide measurable benefits in the form of reduced dust, lower abrasive consumption, and improved blasting efficiency, ultimately supporting customers in achieving reduced operational costs.
“Our Malaysian Hub in Port Klang has been a crucial part of GMA’s growth across APAC and serves as more than a transit point. It enhances our supply chain and service capabilities, and enables us to introduce abrasive innovations specifically tailored to APAC’s industrial challenges,” said Flynn Cowan, General Manager of International Sales & Marketing, GMA Garnet Group.
To further strengthen our service to the region, we have enhanced our leadership capacity with the appointments of Shashi Kumar as APAC Sales and Marketing Manager and Chris Manger as Head of Technical – APAC. These additions provide customers with dedicated technical expertise and regional support, reinforcing our ability to respond to the specific requirements of the APAC market.
The Port Klang distribution hub represents more than logistics capacity; it is a vital part of our long-term strategy to support customers across the Asia Pacific region. With over four decades of experience supplying high-performance abrasives to more than 100 countries, our investment in Malaysia underscores our commitment to building resilient supply chains, delivering innovation, and supporting customers in achieving productivity and performance.
