Renewable energy for GMA’s mining operations in Australia

Written by GMA Garnet | 12/1/2018
Late last year, GMA committed to a long-term power supply contract with renewable energy developer Advanced Energy Resources (AER).

The company will be building and operating the first grid connected wind and solar farm with battery storage near Port Gregory in Western Australia. The project is targeted to be completed by 2019.

The three-megawatt energy farm will be able to supply 70% of the electricity requirements of GMA’s mining operations in Australia.

Aside from the business benefits of uninterrupted power supply and lower electricity costs, GMA will start to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by lowering its carbon footprint by 5,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per annum.

“The project is part of GMA’s commitment to sustainability where we take meaningful steps to limit our impact on the environment. This is one of the ways we care for the well-being of our employees, customers and communities,” said GMA CEO Stephen Gobby.
