From Raw stone to Perfection with GMA ClassicCut™

Written by GMA Garnet | 9/9/2025

For the past 10 to 15 years, waterjet cutting has become one of the most innovative and versatile technologies in the natural stone industry.  The mainstream breakthrough is driven by the availability of high-precision CNC systems that combine speed, accuracy, and superior surface quality while reducing secondary operations and boosting production efficiency.

How Waterjet Cutting Works
The principle is simple yet extremely effective: an ultra-high-pressure waterjet (up to 4,000 bar / 60,000 psi) is forced through a small-diameter orifice, reaching an impressive velocity of around 1,000 m/s (nearly three times the speed of sound). Inside the mixing chamber, the water stream is combined with garnet abrasive particles, transforming the jet into a tool capable of cutting even the hardest materials with precision.

Advantages for Stone Cutting
Precision and versatility: Abrasive waterjet technology enables complex cuts and intricate details without generating thermal stress on the material, thus preserving the natural properties of the stone.

Surface quality: By using top quality garnet abrasives such as our ClassicCut™ 80 and ClassicCut™ 120, cut edges come out smooth, minimising the need for manual polishing.

Time savings: Fewer finishing steps mean faster production cycles and reduced overall costs.

The Ideal Combination
To achieve maximum performance, it is essential to select the right setup*:

This ensures the best balance between cutting speed, edge quality, and the life span of your equipment.

With waterjet cutting, every natural stone project can achieve new levels of precision and quality, opening up creative and production possibilities that are difficult to achieve with other technologies.

*This is one of the recommended combinations and there are other possible combinations available.
